Blue Rockpools
Sometimes the smallest moments reveal the biggest worlds.
I created Blue Rockpools after spending a summer afternoon exploring the rock platforms of a beautiful beach on Darkinjung Country with my sister, Melissa, and my niece, Isabella.
The rock pools had almost dried in the heat, leaving delicate white rings of salt around their edges. While investigating them a little more closely (and yes... tasting one after being dared by my niece), I noticed something extraordinary.
Millions upon millions of tiny craters covered the rock beneath me.
I had walked across rock platforms my entire life, yet I'd never noticed this incredible microscopic landscape quietly existing beneath my feet.
It reminded me how often we move through life without slowing down enough to truly observe what's around us.
That afternoon I painted Pink Rockpools.
The following day, I found myself returning to the same memory. I wasn't finished exploring it. There was still more beauty to discover, more patterns to celebrate, and another story waiting to be painted.
So Blue Rockpools came to life.
This artwork is a reminder that nature rewards curiosity.
The closer we look, the more we realise that every landscape—no matter how familiar—is filled with extraordinary detail, intricate design and quiet wonder.
Sometimes all we need to do is slow down long enough to notice.
🤍
