Three Waves, by Nanii Davies
Sometimes, when life feels overwhelming, a little bit of cosmic perspective can remind us to keep going.
I created Three Waves during a deeply spiritual stage of my life, when I was spending a lot of time exploring ideas about consciousness, reincarnation, the universe and our place within it.
During this time, I discovered the work of Dolores Cannon and her concept of the Three Waves of Volunteers.
According to Cannon's spiritual teachings, there are souls who have chosen to incarnate on Earth during this particular period of human history with a purpose: to help raise the energy of the planet and support humanity through a time of great change.
She described these volunteers as arriving in three broad waves, each with their own characteristics and ways of contributing.
I found the idea comforting.
I didn't need to know exactly which wave I belonged to, if any.
I simply liked the thought that perhaps there were people all over the world quietly trying to make things a little better.
Some might be healers.
Some might be artists.
Some might be teachers, carers, parents, scientists, activists or simply people doing their best to bring kindness into the spaces they occupy.
Not everyone needs to change the world on a grand scale.
Sometimes, changing the little world immediately around you is enough.
That idea became the foundation for Three Waves.
The three large forms represent the three waves of souls, each one moving through the vastness of the universe and making its own contribution.
Surrounding them are thousands of tiny white dots.
I imagined these as the individual people who make up the waves — each one carrying their own little piece of light.
Some may share that light with their families.
Some may share it with their local communities.
Some may reach people all over the world.
And some may never realise the impact they have had at all.
It all counts.
The black space surrounding the white dots represents the vastness of the universe.
I loved the contrast between the darkness and the tiny points of light. Against something so enormous, each individual light can seem insignificant.
But when thousands of them come together, they create something extraordinary.
The red and blue landscape surrounding the central image came from a dream I had during this period of my life.
In the dream, I was sitting in a desert beneath a vast night sky, talking with my own star family.
I woke with a strong feeling of encouragement — a sense that I wasn't alone, and that I should keep going.
I painted Three Waves as a reminder that we don't necessarily need to understand the entire universe to make a difference within it.
We can simply find our little piece of light...
and share it.
