Young Nanii's Dreaming PRINT
The story behind this artwork is about my childhood and bedtime routine. I developed a unique way to calm myself while lying in bed waiting to drift off to sleep. Most nights, I would start by imagining myself in Fiji with my family (we went on holiday there and I fell in love with that Country), which is depicted as a big island in the centre. My dad and I would venture into the bush after humid days to explore the beautiful mushrooms around the area. On the painting, the bush where we used to search for mushrooms is next to the water (and I’ve loved mushroom hunting ever since).
Surrounding this big island scene are many happy memories (depicted as little islands shooting off the large centre island) that I would envision when I was trying to fall asleep, jumping from one to another until I crashed-out with a smile.
The smaller islands around the outside represent memories like visiting my cousins, eating at Pizza Hut, dressing my cat up and walking him around the streets in a stroller, tending to my strawberry patch in the garden… fun memories like that. I tried to capture these dreams and memories with the hope that my painting inspires other children to remember their most happy moments during their bedtime journey. This painting is one for the kids – and we have a young lady named Pip to thank for the inspiration, after telling me about her recent milestone of sleeping in her own bed!
The black and white figures around the centre represent my Star Family in the Dreaming, symbolizing the special protection and love I have always felt.
Each limited-edition print (out of 100) is produced on premium 310gsm Canson Photo Rag paper, hand-numbered and embossed with my signature. Prints are carefully rolled and shipped in a protective tube to ensure they arrive safely and ready to frame.
