Each limited-edition print (out of 100) is produced on premium 310gsm Canson Photo Rag paper, hand-numbered and embossed with my signature. Prints are carefully rolled and shipped in a protective tube to ensure they arrive safely and ready to frame.
Sometimes the newest ideas are simply the oldest wisdom, remembered.
I created Journey to Country for the recipients of Circularity's 2023 ACE Awards.
At first, I immersed myself in learning about the circular economy—reduce, reuse, repair, recycle and reimagine. The more I learned, the more I realised something unexpected.
None of these ideas felt new.
They felt familiar.
They reminded me of the way I was raised.
My mum has always trusted her instincts. Long before public health campaigns became commonplace, she knew cigarette smoke wasn't something she wanted around her babies. If Dad wanted to smoke, he took it outside.
She didn't need permission to care.
She simply did.
Mum’s quiet confidence shaped the way I move through the world today.
When I think about caring for Country, I don't think about complicated systems or clever buzzwords. I think about listening. Observing. Respecting. Taking only what we need and leaving something behind for those who come after us.
Around the edge of this painting are the colours and textures of Country—rich soil, native flora, waterways and the interconnected systems that sustain life. They also represent the people and organisations working every day to help restore our relationship with the natural world. People like Circularity Pioneer, Steve Morriss (whom I call Uncle), who deepened my appreciation for the extraordinary life hidden beneath our feet, and organisations such as Circularity and Planet Ark, whose work inspires practical action for a healthier future.
At the centre of the painting is a deep blue sky.
This is the part of Country where I seek guidance.
The black and white circles represent my ancestors, my Star Family and those who continue to walk beside me in spirit. They remind me that wisdom isn't found in one place alone. It comes from those who walked before us, those walking beside us today, and those who will one day inherit what we leave behind.
To me, Journey to Country is about bringing those worlds together.
Ancient knowledge.
Modern innovation.
Science.
Culture.
Heart.
Hope.
When we remember that we belong to Country—not the other way around—we begin making choices that honour both people and planet.
Perhaps caring for Country isn't something we need to learn.
Perhaps it's something we need to remember.
